Best Time to Visit Santiago
Santiago enjoys a Mediterranean climate that makes it a genuinely year-round destination, but the seasons — reversed from the Northern Hemisphere — do meaningfully shape the travel experience. Spring (September–November) and autumn (March–May) offer the most reliably pleasant weather, with mild temperatures, low humidity, and clear skies that reveal the stunning Andean backdrop to its fullest.
Summer (December–February) is hot and dry in the city itself, but the beaches of Viña del Mar and Valparaíso are at their most inviting, and the coastal wine valleys are producing at full activity. Winter (June–August) is Santiago's ski season — Portillo, Valle Nevado, and Farellones are all easily accessible from the city — and while the city itself can be cold and foggy, the Andean slopes offer world-class powder snow that attracts skiers from across South America and beyond.
