Santiago Craft Beer Scene: Best Cervecerías, Brewpubs & Beer Culture Guide

Santiago's craft beer revolution has transformed the city's drinking culture over the past decade, with an explosion of independent microbreweries, brewpubs, and specialist bottle shops that have given Chilean beer drinkers an alternative to the dominant mass-market lagers that previously defined the category. Chile's long, narrow geography — from arid northern desert to sub-Antarctic wilderness — provides an extraordinary range of water sources, hop-growing microclimates, and regional brewing traditions that the craft movement has enthusiastically embraced.

The epicentre of Santiago's craft beer scene is the cluster of brewpubs and specialist bars that have developed in Barrio Italia and Lastarria — neighbourhoods whose creative, independent character made them natural homes for independent brewing. Cerveza Kross, one of Chile's most acclaimed craft brewers, operates a Santiago taproom that showcases their range from pilsners to imperial stouts alongside collaborative brews with international craft producers. Ugly American Brewing, Patagonia Brewing Company, and Bundor round out the major names with Santiago presence, each bringing distinct approaches to Chilean ingredients and brewing traditions.

The city's specialist beer bars have created excellent venues for exploration: Malabar and La Barcaza in the Bellavista neighbourhood maintain rotating tap lists of 20+ Chilean craft beers alongside thoughtfully chosen international selections, served by staff who can guide serious exploration. For a true deep dive into Chilean beer culture, several of the brewpubs in Bellavista and Barrio Italia offer weekend brewery tours and tasting flights. The craft beer movement has also driven quality improvements at Chile's established wine bars, which increasingly offer serious craft beer lists alongside their traditional wine focus.
